Round two of the photo-convo with my cousin, Maren. Click here to see the latest photo she posted. I love old signs, especially ones from the 1950s, they’re so cool! Even though Maren added an aging filter to cover up a lighting issue, it works so well with the vintage sign.
In response, I’m posting the above photo I took on the new section of the High Line Park. During the turn-of-the-century (and later) many businesses painted their name and contact info on the brick and mortar of their building. Despite the years, you can still find these “ads” on various buildings. It’s like a little secret. One of the best parts is when you can still make out the old phone exchanges (PLaza 3-2260). It’s fun to spot the old New York stuff juxtaposed against something new (and “green”) like the High Line.
I take these photos while I walk around New York City. My iPhone camera allows me to see the city through a different lens. To understand where I live. To walk in the footprints of ghosts, while seeing the life before my eyes. Read my 140-character thoughts on Twitter: @avb Or in long form at: http://www.thebrow.org
